As an independent non-university institute of the Leibniz Association, Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) is capable of operating large mobile facilities for atmospheric research. The institute has a long-term expertise in technological development and application of land- and ocean-based platforms for aerosol/cloud/precipitation/wind profiling and has participated in numerous field experiments all over the globe. TROPOS will transfer this knowledge regarding implementation and the cutting edge technologies and facilities for the establishment of a large field site at CUT. The TROPOS project staff is strongly involved in teaching at the Faculty of Physics and Geosciences of the Leipzig University. Furthermore, TROPOS has established a graduate school and educates about 50 PhD students at once. Thus, EXCELSIOR will also benefit from the strong teaching and Academic background of this partner. The PI of TROPOS for the EXCELSIOR project is Dr. Albert Ansmann.
