Education: Christos holds a 5-year B.Sc. degree in Forestry and Management of the Environment and Natural Resources from the Democritus University of Thrace. He has a M.Sc. in the field of “Geoinformatics and Geospatial Technologies” from Cyprus University of Technology and currently he is a PhD candidate in the field of “Earth Observation and Remote Sensing (Earth Surveillance & Space Monitoring of the Environment)”.
Professional background / participation in funded projects: In 2015, Christos was a summer intern in the Forest Agency in Didymoteicho, Greece. The next two years he used to be a certified volunteer firefighter at the Fire Service in Orestiada, Greece where his training made him a highly motivated person and very passionate about protecting the environment. Currently he is working as research assistant at ASTARTE project (Analysis of SAR and thermal satellite data time-series for understanding the long-term impact of land surface temperature changes on forests) and at CROSS project (Monitoring & Identification of arable crops in Cyprus from space). ASTARTE project website: http://astarte.cut.ac.cy
Research interests: His research interests focus on observing the environment for both land and ocean-related applications by using remote sensing technologies (including both multi-band and radar data). More specifically, his main research interest is active remote sensing using radar satellite data to observe the natural environment for Above-Ground estimation, degradation and deforestation. Also, he is interested in time-series analysis to examine the phenological cycle of plants.
