Cyprus University of Technology (CUT)
Education Coordinator of the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence
Education: Dr. Kyriakides holds a PhD in the field of “Earthquake Risk Assessment of RC buildings” from the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, University of Sheffield with an Overseas Student Award Scholarship and a Scholarship from the A. G. Leventis Foundation in Cyprus. He also holds a 1st class BEng degree with Honours from the University of Nottingham.
Professional Background: He is a Lecturer at the Civil Engineering and Geomatics Department of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) since 2017 and previously a full‐time Post‐Doctoral Researcher at CUT since 2008. He has participated in both European and locally funded projects concerning the seismic risk assessment of structures in Cyprus. Further he has extensive professional experience as a practicing engineer in the industry and more specifically through his 8 years of employment as a design engineer at a civil engineering firm in Cyprus. He is currently coordinating the National Risk Assessment study of Cyprus, which constitutes a national requirement for the participation at the European Project RescEU. He is a Member of sub‐committee CYS TC 18‐ Euroscodes for EC8, Moderator of the committee for the Protection of Critical Energy Infrastructure (PCEI) of the European Defence Agency, Member of the Committees for the Assessment of Existing Buildings and for Research of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), and the head of the Large structures laboratory at CUT, which constitutes a unique pseudo‐dynamic facility for full‐ scale seismic testing. He is the Education Coordinator of the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence.
Research: His research interests include the assessment of existing buildings and infrastructure under seismic loading and the upgrading of their seismic capacity after conventional and state‐of‐ the‐art retrofitting with innovative and smart materials. His main scope of research extends to the probabilistic scenario and resource‐based risk assessment of structures and the society from natural hazards.
