EXCELSIOR participates in the 9th Conference of Students-Teachers for the Exact Sciences in Pegeia (06.03.2020)

The team members of the EXCELSIOR Project Dr. Christiana Papoutsa and Mr. Dimitris Antoniadis participated in the 9th Conference of Students-Teachers for the Exact Sciences at Coral Beach Hotel and Resort in Pegeia. During her presentation Dr. Papoutsa presented the opportunities of the students to watch the presentations and participate in the workshops and school competition that are organised under the SOFIA ESA-PECS project. She mentioned the opportunities for the young researchers to get involved with Earth Observation and Remote Sensing utilising the freely available Sentinels family satellite data in order to monitor the environment and develop their services. Finally she highlighted the importance of the development of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence which has received funding by the Horizon 2020 Widespread Teaming Phase 2 ‘EXCELSIOR’ and the job opportunities that will be created.

At the conference there were more than 1500 students present and the over 100 research papers were presented. The conference which started on the 6th of March 2020 and completed on the 8th of March 2020 was held under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, Mr. Prodromos Prodromou. This year’s conference was co-organized by 15 secondary schools in Cyprus and the Associations of Professors of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. At this year’s 9th conference, it was divided into thematic sections: Environmental Consciousness, Exact Science Teaching, Entrepreneurship, Social and Experimental Research.
