Education: Georgios is a member of the research group and PhD candidate at the Geospatial Analytics Research Lab of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), directed by Prof. Phaedon Kyriakidis. Georgios conducted both his bachelor (BSc.) and postgraduate (MSc.) studies at the Dept. of Cultural Technology and Communication, University of Aegean. Georgios has received scholarship for his PhD studies, awarded by the Cyprus State Scholarships Foundation (IKYK) Scholarship.

Professional background / participation in funded projects: As a member of the Geospatial Analytics Research Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), Georgios is employed as a researcher in several National and European -funded projects with most recent: project SaRoCy: “Delineating probable sea routes between Cyprus and its surrounding coastal areas at the start of the Holocene: A simulation approach”, an “Excellence Hub”, funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation of Cyprus and the Horizon TEAMING project ‘EXCELSIOR’; ERATOSTHENES: EΧcellence Research Centre for Earth Surveillance and Space-Based Monitoring of the Environment.
Georgios acts also as external research associate at the “Sustainable Island Futures: Comparing Small Island States and Subnational Island Jurisdictions: Towards Sustainable Island Futures” project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRCC) in collaboration with the Dept. of Geography at the University of Aegean. Georgios currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Marie Curie Alumni Association Cyprus Chapter (MCAA-Cy).
In the past, he was awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship as part of the “Initial Training Network on Digital Cultural Heritage” (ITN-DCH) project, as well as he was involved in various projects relevant to his fields of expertise, such as iMARECULTURE (Advanced VR, Immersive Serious Games and Augmented Reality as Tools to Raise Awareness and Access to European Underwater Cultural Heritage) and MedSTACH (Eastern Mediterranean Science and Technology Centre for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage). During his studies at the University of Aegean, he started his research career as research associate at the Intelligent Multimedia and Virtual Reality research laboratory, focusing on Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs).
Georgios showcasing great interpersonal and organization skills has co-organized successfully several international conferences like EuroMed 2016 held in Nicosia (Cyprus), the 22nd AGILE Conference on Geoinformation Science organized in Limassol (Cyprus) and the CAA 2021 “Digital Crossroads” held online on 14-18 June; the 48th Conference of CAA international, the organisation for Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology. Georgios has teaching experience in spatial analysis-related undergraduate courses as teaching assistant.

Georgios’ research interests include Spatial Analysis, Agent-Based Modeling, Geostatistics, Data Mining, Neural Networks, Cultural Heritage.
