Filippos ELIADES

Education: Mr Filippos Eliades received his BSc (4-year Diploma) in Physics from the University of Ioannina in 2016. He continued his studies at the Open University of Cyprus where he obtained his MSc degree in Environmental Conservation and Management specialized on Terrestrial Ecosystem Management in 2019. In 2020, he starts his PhD to the Cyprus University of Technology on the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at the field of Earth Surveillance & Space Monitoring of the Environment.

Professional background / participation in funded projects: Mr Filippos Eliades is a PhD Candidate/Researcher and has been a member of the research team of Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis since 2020. During these years, he has been involved in the writing and submission of several research papers in order to participate in International Conferences such as Adapt to Clima, Climatico2019 and Open Earth 2020. At the period of his MSc degree, he engaged in statistical analysis of satellite data for the identification of flood vulnerable areas as well as areas vulnerable to erosion. Furthermore, he dealt with remote sensing software, for terrestrial ecosystem management. Also he participates in EU funded research project EXCELSIOR (H2020) – ERATOSTHENES: Excellence Research Centre for Earth Surveillance and Space-Based Monitoring of the Environment. He was previously employee, as a research staff, in various Environmental Organizations in Cyprus, working on sea micro plastics and for export biodiesel of frying oil. Lastly, Filippos was employed (2019-present) by the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports as environmental educator in Environmental Education Centre of Panayia. He is a member of the pedagogical team of the Environmental Education in the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus.

Research interests: Land Degradation monitoring, Desertification monitoring, Phenology monitoring, Climate Change assessment, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems for environmental surveillance / applications.
