Despina Makri is a PhD candidate in the field of the “Hyperspectral-based coastal ecosystem accounting in Cyprus” at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) under the supervision of Prof. Diofantos Hadjimitsis. She holds a BSc Degree in Marine Sciences- Oceanography from the Department of Marine Sciences of the University of the Aegean and a MSc Degree in Geography and Applied Geo-informatics from the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean. Both at her dissertations she was dealing with the seagrass mapping with different approaches and data. Since November 2019, Despina Makri is a Research Associate A’ at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics, Remote Sensing and Geo-Environment Lab. She was involved in Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) H2020-MSCA-RISE-2018 (January 2020-January 2021). She participates in different Actions of the Programme FPCUP (Framework Partnership Agreement on Copernicus User Uptake) such as the promoting of Remote Sensing in the Education, Stakeholders and General Public, and the Geospatial Intelligence for Environment Protection against Illegal Activities. Finally, from October 2022 she is a Research Associate A’, also, at the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence and especially, the Marine Safety and Security Area.
