Education: Miss Polina Sokratous received her Ba(hons) Architecture & Planning – RTPI – RIBA/ARB part 1 (5-year Diploma) from University of West England, Bristol, UK (UWE) in 2017. She continued her studies at the Sapienza University of Rome where she obtained her MSc Arch degree with honours and achieved a scholarship in the field of Architecture Conservation (Restoration) by the end of 2019. She is currently working as an architect and has recently being accepted to complete her PhD in the Cyprus University of Technology. 

Professional background / participation in funded projects: At the end of her Ba(hons) Architecture & Planning Polina Sokratous has being given the UWE Bristol Future Awards 2016 Diploma. In the same year she completed a 6-week placement in Alec French Architects in Bristol. Primarily worked as a part of a residential team completing location studies and analysis, block designs and feasibility reports along with site visits. She has also operated as a junior team architect in a commercial type of project, commended on a key proposal in Redcliffe Wharf, master-planning and often pointing contacts between consultant + clients.

After succeeding on her master’s degree in architecture and conservation (with honours) and scored 1st on the course with an offered scholarship she immediately started working as an architectural assistant in Armeftis & Associated under the supervision of a partner architect implemented 4 innovative high-quality solutions. She led a sales project and participated in an extremely large plan in Platres, Cyprus. In addition, she completed 3 other residential type buildings as a part of an architect team using BIM softwares such as Revit and autoCAD.

Miss Sokratous is currently employed as an architect at Panicos Charilaou Architects & Engineers. Managing medium to large residential scale projects as well as large building complexes for commercial and other uses. Being a team leader, she has primary responsibility for promoting the architectural vision and production of architectural work products; works in strong collaboration with the rest of the core architect team. She is also assisting clients in 1:1 meetings and approving constructor submittals. Among with, she is applying knowledge of relevant regulations and policies regarding the design of projects.

Throughout those 8 years of international studies and work practice, she gathered, learned, and gained information and experience that helped her evolve and be able to work as a professional in the field of architecture. Usually forming relationships and coordinating design decisions with consultants, engineers, and constructors. Working together, has allowed her to enhance her understanding of all processes and challenges involved with the building phases and stages on various architectural proposals. She is now motivated and planning to pursue with her studies implementing a PhD in the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK).

Research interests: Architecture for health and well-being, Architecture and psychology Impact and built environment, Nature and healthy architecture, Aging – Living and Sustainability, Architectural and Design Science, Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), Sustainable designs, Emergence in design.
