Education: George Ioannou holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Nicosia and a master’s degree in Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics from the Cyprus University of Technology, where he continues as a PhD candidate in the department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics.
Professional background / participation in funded projects: He was a civil servant for twenty years at the Information Technology Services department, where he was appointed as a database and system administrator, system analyst, and software developer for the Land Information System, of Lands and Surveys Department. For the last five years he provides professional services as a freelance consultant appointed as system analyst, system administrator, and software developer, in projects related to earth observations, land registration, hazard mitigation, real estate, etc. He also gives lectures at the Neapolis University, for Geographic Information Systems in real estate.
Research interests: His research focuses on the fields of web and mobile application development for spatial data management, earth observations and hazard mitigation and monitoring. He is a member of the research team of the CYCLOPS project (Cyprus Continuously Operating Natural Hazard Monitoring and Prevention System).
