Dr. Christodoulos METTAS

Researcher B

Education: Christodoulos received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nottingham, where he obtained the degree of MEng (Master of Engineering) Honours in Civil Engineering. His postgraduate degree was a Master in Science degree (MSc) from the CUT while his final postgraduate dissertation concerned Marine Spatial Planning. He is currently a PhD candidate in Monitoring Asphalt Pavement defects using Remote Sensing techniques at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). After his MSc studies Christodoulos was employed by the CUT at the position of: Research Associate at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics.

Professional background / participation in funded projects: At the moment he is working as a Researcher C at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics, Remote Sensing and Geo-Environment Lab (ERATOSTHENES Research Centre) and is a Manager of the following projects:  1) “Maritime Spatial Planning 2” which is a Cross-Border Cooperation for implementing Maritime Spatial Planning in Greece and Cyprus and 2) “Digital Imprint of Hagionymous Islands” which concerns the Navigation of Cultural Heritage Digitization of Churches of Cyprus and Crete. Both projects are “INTERREG-V A Greece-Cyprus” projects. Additionally, he is working in EXCELSIOR project (Horizon 2020) as an assistant manager. Moreover, Christodoulos participated in the following projects: SOFIA and CROSS projects funded by ESA (European Space Agency), ATHENA project (Remote Sensing Science Center for Cultural Heritage) funded by the H2020-TWINN-2015, DECATASTROPHIZE (Use of SDSS and MCDA to prepare for disasters or plan for multiple hazards) funded by DG-ECHO and THAL-CHOR (Marine Spatial Planning in Cyprus) funded by INTERREG IV.  He also worked as an expert on the National Risk Assessment of Cyprus (tender through Cyprus Civil Defense) and on the evaluation of Phase III – Strengthening Disaster Risk Management Capacities in Lebanon which is a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) tender. Finally, he worked in the construction industry and particularly was managing Solea’s Dam construction in Cyprus (budget ≈ 20 million Euros). He is, also, a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK).

Research interests: Integration of remote sensing, UAV and GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) techniques for road maintenance, Field Spectroscopy, Remote Sensing and GIS for environmental applications, Maritime Spatial Planning, Surface water quality monitoring of inland & coastal water bodies, Natural disaster management, Risk Disaster Management, Cultural Heritage Monitoring.
