SUMMARY:SpaceUpCyprus 2021 live
DESCRIPTION:SpaceUpCyprus-LIVE is an online version of the global “space unconference” SpaceUp. The event will host guest speakers and a Space Balloon designed by PASCAL English School Larnaka will be released into the atmosphere\, carrying students’ experiments into near-space altitudes. The payload (the load carried by our Space Balloon) will reach an altitude of 90\,000 feet and will withstand temperatures of -50 degrees Celsius and high solar radiation for 6 hours. The Space Balloon will then return to Cyprus\, so the findings can be analysed and students can draw conclusions about the accuracy of their experimental predictions.SpaceUpCyprus 2021 LIVE takes place in the framework of the First Pancyprian Space Education Week\, which is organized by the Cyprus Space Foundation\, the EXCELSIOR H2020 Teaming Project and the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology. \n\nOnline with Facebook Live\nFor more information please contact Elpidoforos Anastasiou at ela.anastasiou@edu.cut.ac.cy.

DESCRIPTION:The EXCELSIOR H2020 project\, the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE) and the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology organize a virtual invited talk by Dr Philippa Mason.Dr Philippa Mason received her MSc from University College London in 1993 and PhD from Imperial College London in 1999; and is a senior lecturer in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London. She is a professional field geoscientist and a specialist in remote sensing\, with more than 20 years’ (academic and commercial) experience\, and with research interests in the application and development of InSAR in geohazards and tectonics\, and in spectral geology and image processing\, on Earth and other planets. Her teaching and research at Imperial College London involves the translation of terrestrial Earth Observation techniques\, such as Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and imaging spectroscopy\, to assist in the understanding of geological features and processes on other Earth-like planets\, such as Venus and Mars. She is a member of the Engineering Scale Geology Research Group (ESGRG) whose research activities are focused on the development of InSAR tools for the measurement of small-scale ground deformation in urban and rural settings. Philippa is also a science team member of EnVision\, a truly international UK-led mission which will take Earth Observation SAR technology to Venus in 2031\, to help understand why it is so different to Earth\, establishing whether it is tectonically active\, and if it was ever hospitable to life. \n  \nWatch the invited talk online via YouTube:
